Thursdayness

I forgot to write about a funny moment. My youngest offspring has a quirky sense of humor like his mother (thats me). On the weekend, my husband made himself an elaborate sandwich. As he left the kitchen without it he said "Don't touch my sandwich!!" which is pretty much SCREAMING at me to touch the sandwich. I turned to Cameron and said "Heh heh heh. We should hide his sandwich and say I ate it. He'll flip out.hehhehhehhehhehhehhehheh" It began with a mild chuckle but The more I laughed the more Cameron laughed and so it continued until we were shrieking with uncontrollable giggles and then my husband hollered from upstairs "What did you DO!?" which made us say "Nothing!" quickly and laugh as hard as ever. Since he knew we were up to something it made no sense to pilfer the 'wich so we left it where it was.
Its kinda nice to have spawned a partner in crime. Mwahahahahahahahaha

Emotional girl...

I am rather emotional this week. There was the worry of the "announcement" the last week. Having been through the downsizing thing twice already it was a whole "oh shit here we go again" feeling. A whole 'oh crap we have no savings again and what will we do if there is no severance package" feeling. Luckily for us, this didn't happen to our household this time but it is happening to others and thats never a good thing. One ponders the wisdom of head offices in some of their moves. How do sales teams function without leaders? I guess we will find out.
Then I watched the news. Not a good idea. Dead soldiers coming home to bereaved families and someones children were weeping at the loss of their daddy. Two boys. I have two boys. They were distraught and the way they wiped at their little eyes was exactly how mine do it and my heart just broke for these poor fatherless boys. Had to go to bed in tears.
Sometimes this fucking world is just too much for me.

Announcements suck

Whenever an announcement is said to be on the way from head office, its never good news. We were warned and announcement would be forth coming and today it did and the good news is that our family isn't effected by the cuts but still they hit the team and that sucks big time.
What will the future bring for us after january? i have no idea.

I always said:

that I would never marry. And I did.
That I would never have children (yuck). And I did.
That I would never give my children a soother. i did.
That I would never spank or strike my children. And I did.
That I would not give them sugar before they were one. And I did.
That when my kids went to school my house would gleam. yeah right.
That I would read to my children every single night no matter what. yeah right.
That I would lose this weight. Ummmm
That I would be a better mother than my mother... Apples and trees.
What I have learned in this life is that one should NEVER say never because then you look like an ass when you go and do what you swore vehemently you would never ever do. That and I can't trust a word I say.
How sad is that? As in pathetic.

Its wierd...

When someone becomes a house hold name like princess Diana, or the crocodile hunter its really wierd when they die. The person was a part of pop culture for such a while that one is a bit stunned that no new shouts of "Crikey" will be coming from the TV. Of course the media is wringing every drop out of it they can but behind the scenes there are people left behind and ones heart must go out to them.
Crocs may sleep sounder at night but there are some folk who won't and thats sad.
It was a quiet day here. I did nap restlessly this afternoon and the kids had a great day at school. Its almost bedtime for them and Richard is still not home yet from his day learning to drive a formula One car with clients. He's been so excited about this and its finally here. I hope he had a good time.
Well thats about it for here. Nothing too new or exciting from this house

Oh look..yesterdays post showed up. how odd.

Tuesday

I blogged this weekend but it got lost in cyber space somewhere and its gone. I have no idea what it said beyond headaches and much sleeping. Possibly some wittiness but really I have no idea.
Today there is no wittiness. after all that luscious sleep on the weekend guess who COULD NOT get to sleep until after 3 am last night and woke periodically and then the kids were up at shortly before seven. Since I slept on the couch last night (because I couldn't sleep and usually that works) I didn't hear the alarm at 7 (I dozed off again after the kids were awake) and woke with a start at quarter after. Now they are gone to school and I am soooo zonked. This afternoon is sooo a naptime.
I have a load of laundry in and two loads from a few days ago folded. I took a page out of the Fly Lady book and had my kitchen sink empty and shiny clean last night so I woke to that instead of a catastrophe. That was nice. I have been trying to accomplish that at least a couple of times a week. It makes me feel good to have a cleaned and disinfected kitchen sink area as often as possible. It can get real grungy real fast and thats just an gastro intestinal upset waiting to happen.
But it is a new day and its all a mess again so what ever.
SuperNova was good last night. My favorites are Storm and Toby. Both have such a zest for life, well rounded talent, and professionalism as well as being so damn funny. Tonights 80's classics and original works. I enjoy watching the aging rockers (to be fair, it is true..they ain't crazy kids anymore) working with the singers and last nights song writing clinic with Gilby Clarke was interesting since I have done a spot of writing (for fun) . His efficiency was so cool...no ego stroking but still kind..got the job done and was always on the look out for cliched old tired lyrical traps. He summed it up very well when he made a "what are you bring to us? If you aren't bringing anything in then I don't want you" kind of statement. And thats so true. Its not enough to just be a singer and ride on the hard work (writing and arranging) of the rest of the band. Sure singing is work but so is playing the guitar etc. If you want to be an equal in the band relationship you must be able to pull your weight. Storm and Toby were the only ones that pulled their weight as song writers last night. Can't wait for tonights show.
Hey they are shooting a film about the killer whale Luna. Graham Greene is in it. Looks like it could be interesting. I was sad when Luna died last year. Luna was the very very friendly wild killer whale in BC that had a bad habit of getting in the way of boats. It was the cause of death in the end (injuries) but the idea that Luna was the reincarnation of a great chief was a lovely idea. I look forward to the dramatization starring Greene, Jason Priestly, and Adam Beach.
Bare Naked Ladies are on Canada AM tomorrow. Oh I love them sooo much. That is my favorite band of alllll time. I have enjoyed them since 1991 when Gordon was released and my coworker Tony Ring was incensed that they went "commercial" rather than staying an indie band. I have/had at least 4 of their albums but some got scratched or lost. Guess I should replace them some time. Ben is very very fond of them too and has two cds of his own (Stunt and Bare Naked For The Holidays). Remember when Toronto was having conniptions about their name???? hahahahaha good times....how the world has changed.

Must...Not..Kiiiilllllllll

The neighbor kid is hear and things are insane. Loud, wild, did I say LOUD???
Grrrrrrrrrrr entreaties from me to "Calmez vous" have met with yet more racket with Cameron and neighbor kid being the major offenders.
Ok..so its labor day so Happy Labor Day.
Its coldish and rainy and tempers are flaring. Ok...now I just got hit with a rubber bouncy ball in the shoulder. Someone must die...or be sent to their rooms.
I slept a lot this weekend. I slept in Yesterday and I had a headache that was just uncomfortable enough to bother me and make me not so cheerful. I ended up going to bed after supper and a bubble bath. When I'd wake through the night it was still there. Today I'm rested and fairly headache free. I found my secateurs and went out to dead head and prune back the front garden. It was getting pretty wild and ratty. I need to rearrange some stuff too but that will wait for now.
there is a show on TV about rich people. Ugh...Britney Spears needs a severe boot in the arse. She could do so much good in the world with the jillions she spends on her Boy 'ho husband. $1000 sneaker sprees? Thousands on sex costumes? Thousnads spent on looking like white trash/truckers. Oh gods...
They were on the VMA awards the other night as presenters and not only were they roundly boo'ed but their supposed parody of themselves was untalented and tacky. Betcha thats a shock to her system. It made me bitchily pleased.
I must be PMSing.

September First

It is a Friday and the sun is shining beautifully. My children are in school for the entire day so I took the opportunity to crawl back into bed this morning rather than wait for an afternoon nap. Why do I sleep so much? I have no idea but have been this way since my teens. Its like my sleep patterns got screwed up and never went back. I even remember when it began..I had to take antihistamine and decongestants for a fluid problem in my ears the summer before I began grade nine. Or maybe just after school started? I had volunteered at the Y that summer as a daycamp counsellor and while visiting my sister in the Annapolis Valley, I awoke one morning to a plugged ear. Very soon (a day or so later) the other ear was the same and I could hardly hear anything outside my head...myself I could hear very loudly in that a whisper was deafening. Sort of like when you stick your fingers in your ears. Anyhoo, doctors being so smart treated this with pills and I spent the better part of a month with a 75 percent hearing loss. During this time, the medicine made me very very sleepy so that sometimes I had to stay home in the afternoon to sleep. And thus began my love affair with sofas, beds, and pillows, and blankets and snoozing my life away. My husband thinks I am the sleepingest person he ever met and it pisses him off to no end (he often has trouble sleeping and so rarely takes a nap for fear of losing a restful nights sleep). Maybe the pills turned me into some sort of human cat.
I just finished the LONG book Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke. I bought it back when I went for my solitary trip to Nova Scotia and simply could not get into it. The other day I had nothing to read..I hate that. I mean nothing FUN or entertaining to read. When I went to get Brendan Myers book Mysteries Of Druidry from my bag I found the novel. I will take a novel over non-fiction any old day so I started again to read it and I must say it is quite good. The use of language is very interesting in that the narrative is as if someone from the 18oo's England was telling the tale, with many a side track and footnote to explain various points. It gets somewhat distracting to read fictitious footnotes in a fictitious tale but on the whole the scope of imagination was terrific and thorough. Bravo Susanna Clarke for a very original novel.
I weighed myself with trepidation yesterday and am back up PAST where I was last summer. very distressing. somewhat revolting and NO I will NOT put down this bowl of ice cream.

I'll tell ya what I want what I reallyreally want........

I wanna go back to sleep.
This whole back to school thing is wreaking havok with my mood because of getting up early. Those who know me know that I am NOT a morning person. I am more of a noon, afternoon kinda gal. My preferable waking time is somewhere in the 10 to 11:30 ish range. 7 AM sucks the big one. All griping aside, I think that the new hours for the afternoon at school rock because I have more nap time. One might say "What??". I won't go back to bed in the AM for fear of not waking in time to fetch the guys for lunch . Morning is spent in a dozy coffee slurping fog of internet and chores. I will dress (shower optional) and go get the wee men for lunch, returning them to school for 1 PM. Then...yes...THEN..I will snuggle up on the sofa with my afghan and possibly a cat or three and snooze delightedly until the bus brings mes enfants home near 4 PM. Have I told of my love affair with the Ikea sofa? No? Perhaps another time.
Ok, so I checked the Concordia site again for continuing Ed which for some reason on previous visits made little sense (not enough coffee? too many distractions?). It MADE sense this time and I printed off the registration stuff for part time french conversation. I'm hoping for the Tuesday and Thursday evening class....mornings are bad (see above). Plus for me to get downtown for a 9 AM class from Terrebonne? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAA...yeah right. Registration is tomorrow evening. i could wait for a later class (december, january) but Richard thinks I should strike while my determination is hot or I won't go. That has some sense.
On Dooce she was talking about not being able to go to the bathroom alone since her child was born. It got me to thinking, all moms go through this and if you have more than one child the phenomenon lasts even longer. My kids are 9 and 7 1/2 and unless the door is shut tight, and possibly locked and barricaded, they will walk right in and stand there talking to me or watching whatevers going on. My screeches for privacy get met with giggles and chantings of London and France and underpants or questions about why mommy wears a diaper (from which came the explanation of the uterus and its functioning). My kids may not recognize my need for privacy but by Gods they are educated. And possibly scarred for life.

So Much For French Class

I went to Montreal to take a French clss but it turns out the information given to me was WRONG, despite my having asked clarifying questions regarding placement etc. ARGH.
It turns out the French Conversation course was a Level 3 class (again, I ASKED about levels etc) and I am a level two if you don't ask me to conjugate any verbs. I was so pissed off because I arranged my day etc and was arranging my schedule for classes on Mondays and Wednesdays. Right now there is NO level 2 class because of not enough students, and when they are held it will be Tuesdays and Thursdays.
I'm feeling very grumbly and will be checking again with Concordia and Universite De Montreal. Hopefully I'll get through this time.

Totally Tired

I was gonna entitle this entry Totally Pooped but then folk might have been turned off thinking it was about bowel movements or something ("got up this morning and went to the toilet and totally pooped"). How gross would that be?
Rest assured I am only tired as a day at La Ronde standing in line after line after line can make a fat out of shape mother. Oy! My feet were sore and my leg aching when I got home, got the kids into bed, popped some Advil and CRASHED hard. I love my bed. If it was a man I'd marry it and never stray. Ever.
So this morning my loving spouse WOKE ME UP and announced we are not going camping today. That was the plan..camping at Lac Du Pins and tomorrow we'd go to Parc Safari. He feels its too much to deal with so no camping but we'll still go to Parc Safari. I don't know whether I am disappointed or not. I like the campfire and star gazing of camping. The bored kids I could do without. We don't have pals with kids to camp with here so the kids are stuck with us. And when you find a really good campground with friendly folks and friendly children its a real pleasure. We thoroughly enjoyed Risser's earlier this summer. The kids made friends on the beach with other camping kids and could play and bike etc. We enjoyed the beach and quiet nature of the area. I would gladly spend a week there. Or at least more than 2 nights.
Richard is stressed at work again. Some cases he was hoping would go smooth are not so much and his dreams for next years major dream purchase is iffy. It sounds so stupd in print and whiney that I can't type it in. Its just so ridiculous that sympathy would not be forthcoming and in sight of this weeks edict to only spend money on groceries (guess who overspent this pay??) it sounds even more ridiculous...going broke to buy something so luxurious. Uggh. I'm even a bit disgusted with us. Stupid spenders. BooHoo we are not rich...but we will spend like we are. Someone kick us please.
So....the count down is on to Monday..SCHOOL. Its really coming. I hope the kids enjoy their year. And make friends close to home so they feel less isolated Ben has a girl from his class just 3 houses away but she's a girl and I think goes to day care so that hasn't worked out. Not to mention I suggest going to the park or biking and get a resounding "Noooooooooo". What is up with that?
They are over to Mathieu's for birthday party today. They went early to play with him before hand. It was a last minute thing so I had no gift bought but I guess thats ok.
Time to go make like I'm useful. ugh

Can you say "Law Suit Nation"?

Ok...I'm watching the news and here's a story that makes me wish I could kick asses. This guy thought he won the lottery. He checked his numbers in the Gazettes summary page and it turns out that they were the wrong numbers(Gazette says "sorry, human error, very sorry"). On another page , the page with lottery details and the disclaimer that one should check with Lotto Quebec before quitting your job and mooning your boss, were the correct numbers but the guy didn't check there, went to the dep and fopund out he is still not rich, and now is suing The Gazette because he can't recover from the shock and disappointment that he is, in fact, not a winner. So..he is suing the paper because he is a LOSER.
I'm a loser too...who can I sue????????

Bad word

The word to strike terror into the hearts of housecleaners evrywhere. The lurking prescence that..well..lurks and creeps up unexpectedly on even the cleanest homes.
The word, my friends, is MILDEW.
Thats right. Mildew, that rotten motherfucker, has invaded my family room and I am sincerely pissed off. I spent the day in intimate company with Bleach, Lysol and Febreeze (My homegirls) and we kicked Mildew's ass. But, as you know, he always finds his way back.
Withe this summer's humidity and going away a bit, I didn't notice the smell or marks on the wals and base boards. It seems to be only the North end of the basement but thats where our guests sleep so it makes it even more imperative to get rid of it. I scrubbed at mildewed areas with bleach, stripped the bed and washed the frame etc, sprayed the matress with Lysol then later again with febreeze just in case there was a smell of staleness or mildew. I washed the floor with bleach too. What we need to keep this from happening again is a dehumidfier. Its on the list of must gets. Because of the humidity the laminate floor down here buckled too. Its settled back down but I feel awful about the mildew thing. My house may not be the tidiest but it does get cleaned and having that creeping blotchy mess is not only gross but a health hazard if it gets too crazy. Not on my watch!! I opened up a couple more windows for more air flow too and to vent the noxious chlorine fumes and over abundance of Lysol smell. I need help with the computer desk...I want to make sure there is none behind it before I quit.
Nasty nasty nasty. At least its all fresh and disinfected for Joyce to stay over Wednesday night. I'll check it all again before Jessie and Harvey arrive late in September too.
This week is insane. We go to La Ronde Thursday and go camping Friday. Joyce is here Wednesday night. School starts Monday. I need another week just to be ready for it. The school shopping is done and all but where did the summer go?????? It seems like all I did was laundry!? Just one more week, Ma! I wanna have some fun!
I contacted a french course and will sit in on a class Monday night (Too soon!). Its also a Monday and Wednesday night class, reasonable price, and a 60 hour duration. For another $60 I get lab access for practice with the Rosetta Stone software but I gots my own Rosetta Stone program, eh?...its called my family. Maybe they'll help me practice.
I feel like hyper ventilating just thinking about it all. School..gasp..class..homework fights...wheeze...lunches...gak.... Gimme a bag...I need a paper baaaaaaaagggg! whoopwheeze..............

Crazy People

What is with some folk?
I was just on Dooce and she gets hate mail for her blog...what the fuck? Its a great blog, full of momness (I know, not a real word but its what I mean so deal.) and hilarity. If someone chooses to write something in their diary, and have ads on the side so she can make a few buck, why the hell does someone have to make negative comments? I'm glad, nay, THRILLED when someone drops in here once in a blue to say "hi, glad you're alive". Imagine if someone came to your blog and said something hateful. Geez louise..these people need to get a life..or a gun and eat it. (Ohhh..that was nasty.)
Away with the crazy people and let us all live in peace , love , and grooviness. With a cherry on top.

Today was rainy and a dreary. Went grocery shopping with Ben. He's such a cool kid. Great helper. We celebrated groceries by having fries on the drive home. I bought a Pink panther movie for Richard. His favorite one "The Pink Panther Strikes Again". It really is the funniest of all.
Ooh and happy news, my sister told me that she and her hubby will make the trip and stay with us for a night. This will be the first family to visit from my side. Yay!
School commences in one week. I am pricing and searching French courses. University Montreal has one two evenings a week and ends in November. I have to call tomorrow. I MUST get a grip on the whole French thing or I will lose my fucking mind. This has to take precidence this Fall, much as it pains me. Its just too damned hard to live here without it, what with dealing with a French school and a very French community and forget having a job if you are anglophone.
I sent An Autumn Lullaby to Susan in Winnipeg to see if she and Jacinthe can come up with a melody. She said she likes the lyric...isn't that nice?? I love sincere compliments! More please. I should buckle down and write more. haven't written a song in almost two years. How awful.
Ok..now we are all up to date. Nighty night.

Beowulf and Grendel

We watched this tonight and while its wasn't action packed or wordy , it was a good film. It makes one think a bit too. I felt sorry for Grendel, whom noone but the local seeress understands. Poor troll.
The film was well shot, scenery was spectacular in a rocky windswept way. I recommend it!
Also, on the case it says its just in french but its not. This means I didn't have to sit through subtitles on an English language film that had been dubbed in French. I was a mite tetchy on that point. :o)
Accents were sometimes very hard to decipher and why may I ask does everyone have an Irish or thick English accent when they were supposed to be Danes and Geats? Oy! Whats up with that?? Why, when a character is supposedly French or Spanish etc, does that character end up played with an English accent of some sort? Are the actors not talented in accents or didn't have time to train in the accent their character would have had? Can we realise now in the 21st Century that a film about anyone other than North Americans does NOT need to have British and associated accents involved to illustrate the characters differentbness. I think we could handle an Icelandic accent, or Norwegian or SOMETHING other than British Isles. I felt like I should be watching Rob Roy or Braveheart or something rather than Beowulf and Grendel.
I think we are all secure enough and astute enough, as film viewers, to handle other accents now. We're ready. At least I am.
Movie review and rant Fini! :oP

Just remembered....

I was just over on Cute Overload for my usual dose of extreme cuteness. One picture with captions has me chuckling big time.
Ok..back on topic..CO reminded me of a close encounter with nature we had eeaaaaarrrllly Sunday morning. Richard woke up thinking he heard something in our trash. He was right. A skunk had trashed our trash! Of course I had to watch his fluffiness at work and man, they are one funny critter. They always seem drunk to me. Wobblin' around like they do.
So, stinky is making out with the garbage and discovers...the bean can. Oh joy oh bliss, baked beean can covered in sauce on the inside nyum nyum nyum. Head goes in..can't get out. ROFL. Poor little fuzzer was staggering around with a can for a head. He did get it off very quickly so he wasn't tortured or anything. But oh it was cuteness to the nth while it lasted.
Thinking about it later I came up with something that would make a great live action or animated scene if I could make movies.
We come upon Stinky Stinkerson as he rummages in the garbages. He's having a happy ol' time and gets his head caught in a can of beans. Along comes Rocky Raccoon and Sinky's tail goes up 'Who goes there!!!?" "Whoa! Stand down there,Soldier, its just me!!!" You can use whatever voices you want..I have them sounding like back woods hillbillies, myself. ;oP
Trust me...in my head it was funnnnneeeee! But then again...many things are.

Meme........

I got this from Autumn's blog and it sounded fun. Grab the book closest to you right now and:
1) Turn to page 123
2) Skip the first 5 sentences.
3) Record sentences 6 through nine in your blog.

No searching for a cool book or anything. The book nearest your hands this very second is the only book you use.
The book closest to me was one of Richard's actually. The Legend Of Huma (Dragonlance Saga Heroes Volume one) byRichard A. Knaak.
"Huma brought his mount to a halt, then turned it. The two guardsmen still riding charged him from two sides, their intent to cross him up. The rider to Huma's rightswung a mean blow with his sword, and the rider to the left followed withanother an eyeblink later."
Booooring.....
L'Equipeur had an awesome sale today. I got a tweed like jumper, a cool striped turtlneck, and two 3/4 sleeved tops, $4.99 each!! The regular price of the jumper was $39. heeheehee. I'll go back tomorrow and see if theres a jumper in my sister's size. The selection was great but not many things in my size. You have to love the end of season sale's eh?? There were skirts and pants etc too. I will wear my salt and pepper tweed jumper with a black turtle neck this winter.
That is all.

Feeling Crafty

But in a good way, not crafty as in sneaky. After our trip in July I began making a pair of Lovikka mittens. I haven't knit on it in a almost two weeks but will get back at it. This trip found me bringing home a sweet book on kids quilts and stuff (like a bean bag stool...cool!) Its a really nice book and explains applique pretty well etc. Man, I wish I had a stitch and bitch group to get together with. That would be nice, sitting and crafting projects in the company of others for an hour or two.
Anyways, I have the crafty urge to work on my mittens, buy yarn, and plan a quilt even though mine still isn't finished. This winter it WILL be done.
Ben was feeling poorly this morning...sort of threw up but then felt better. Its a gorgeous day...we MUST get out.

I'm Baaaaaaack

You know, it takes time AWAY from your home for you to really appreciate your comfort level in that home.
The past week was spent in Nova Scotia again but get this! i only got about 2 hours of beach time in. That so sucks. I spent time with my folks and visited my aunt and an old friend whose dad is ailing. This wa sgreat. My folks, I am sorry to say, are really becoming frail and elderly. I worry because there is noone there to make sure Mom eats regularly and with some variety and nutrition (Cup of Soup??NOT a meal). I got a wee bit of time with my big sister between visits. I went from my parents to my friend Julie's place. This is possibly the friend I have the greatest comfort level with. Nothin' like sitting in your jammies sipping coffee until 2 in the afternoon discussing affairs of the heart, state, gardens, and lipsticks...oh and home reno's. LOL We cover a lot of ground and have more than a couple giggles along the way. Bless you, Jules.
Then it was off to M's. This was not as easy. I love her very much but she's not an easy person. There is a lot going on with her and she's drained so I was hoping to be of some support or help but I don't think I was at all. She's a very serious and literal person which is great but can be wearing.
I ended up leaving Nova Scotia early (by a day) in order to meet my men at the camp ground in Notre Dame Du Lac. Camp fires, shooting stars, rain and my guys. Oh, and a skunk tore apart our trash! LOL It got its head stuck in a can from baked beans and wobbled about a bit until he managed to get it off. Too funny.
We got back last evening around supper time and after quick unpacking etc off we went to Chateau De La Lune for their buffet. Oh so good!!!! YUMMY! This was to celebrate my return home. Isn't that sweet?
Today it was laundry and bathrooms and napping. Oh its good to be back in my domain. except for the laundry and bathrooms.

Thoughts and Ponderings..........

Flipping through channels this morning brought me to the World Vision thing on TV. A few years ago I arrived home from church to Richard saying"I've adopted a child!" as I came in the door. "What the fuck?" was my response.
Turns our he had called in to sponsor a child. Lourda is her name. She lives outside Port Au Prince in Haiti. When I buy school supplies or clothes for my kids I think of her and wish I could fill a box with goodies for her and her friends but that is something that is not allowed by World Vision. They have these little gifty things on occassion but they are suchcrap that we don't buy into it ( cheesy little beach ball). Iwant to send her cool stuff like paper and markers or crayons.
World Vision has a cool catalogue that you can make a gift from though. Supplies for growing food, chickens for eggs and meat, goats for milk and meat, etc etc . This year I think we should make a gift and give our family cards that say instead of something they won't bother with we've sent a gift to improve the lives of a family in their names.
I leave for Nova Scotia tomorrow. Time to pack. Last night I had yet another tidal wave dream..again we weren't hurt and were left to wonder at Nature's might and mercy. It wasn't that huge a wave this go round but still dangerous. I wish I knew exactly why I have these dreams. It was a new one too...I was playing beach volley ball (what the fuck??) on this tiny beach full of people and there were buildings ffor services the beach staff people provided. For some reason there was a very tall dune/hill in the middle of the beach and we were all told to climb to higher ground for safety. Ever try to climb a dune? Sand is not conducive to easy climbing . I was trying to find the boys...where were my babies?? Someone had put them in PFDs and they were safe in one of the building and on the beach far from the dune which was the focal point for the wave. This is all I really remember. Also the big wave building off shore as big white crests and the wave building up up up from that. Very strange and kinda scary. This is the first one in a while.
I thought before that Shekinah was trying to get my attention as my Matron. I have been lapsed in my studies and not been practicing any sort of regular observance. Maybe I am being told to step it up a bit...but how and why? Any thoughts folks?

Its Too Darn hot..just too damn hot....

I will be neither cooin' nor pitchin' woo with anyone or anything unless there is a major change in the weather. Last night was the humungous thunderstorm that ended up killing two people. I have never ever seen lightning the likes of last nights! It just never quit!! Constant flashing in the clouds and huge flashes that lit the neighborhood like fluorescent lights. And the bolts were some of the biggest I have ever seen. Unbelievable.
And after all that we had no relief from the heat and humidity AAAAANNNNDDD were without power for approxiamately 16 or 17 hours. maybe more. I dunno...The boys and I left home today in order to escape the sticky heat and returned home around 5pm to a house with power again. we cruised the mall a bit and then went to Laval to catch an afternoon movie if possible. The Ant Bully. Cute.
Clair De Lune at the mall has a big sale on seasonal type candles and stuff. I got a set of 4 glasses in a green amber colour for 5 bucks. Bye bye plastic cups from the theater kids combos. I got to thinking though...what a great time to pick up little gifts for Christmas and birthdays. i know some people do this all the time and it makes terrific sense. Some of the little candles and holders and stuffs were as little as $3 and not bad looking. Lets face it...come Christmas the big money is spent in your house hold (husband and kids) and everyone else gets a little token something to celebrate the season. Or say it a sister or friend's birthday...do you go out and plunk down 50 bucks on something or just give a little gift to show your affection and make note that they were born? Get me? I am thinking that next pay day its Christmas shopping time. Same with that store Arlene's...my neices go crazy for that crap!! So, when gorly stuff goes on sale I need to stock up.
I picked up a belated wedding shower gift for my nephew and his bride to be. A "tart" or "oil" burner. It was marked down to $9.99 and came in a variety of colors with coordinating wax"tarts". the one I chose was an ivory color (go with any decor) and the fragrance of the tart was "Love and Tenderness". How perfect for a wedding! I also grabbed a tart called "Wedding Day" to go in there too. I am quite pleased with my purchase! The wedding is Labor Day weekend and I will be missing it. I must check their registry to pick out a good gift. I cannot believe my l'il Ricky is grown up enough to get married. His bride is a sweetie.
Anyways, its been a wild 24 hours.

Totally cranky

I am feeling very grouchy. Its the fucking humidity. i am sooooo sick of it. that an isolation making itself felt again. I should NOT complain or bitch and out loud I'm not...mostly just here. This Saturday morning I will be in the Echo and heading East alone. This is a very scary thing. Never drove that far away by myself except when we were moving and the guys were in the other car near by. I am beginning to rethink the decision. Why am I going? Because some need me back there. Will this be a joyous trip? I have no idea. I am sure parts will be fun but others will be me listening and supporting others. HA! It is to laugh. Would be nice to get a little of that this way but whats a girl to do? It's nice to be needed but also hard when you are also needful. T'is a conundrum is it not?
I am looking forward to beach time again. It will be fit in around everyone.
Anyways, humidity makes me cranky which just colors everything else in shade of bitchiness so I guess I should just be quiet. We had a lovely, togethery weekend the likes of which we haven't had in a while. It was a relief to have a happy husband and reasonably happy kids. THIS eases my way to happiness and contentment. Cuddly loving times.
Why can't this be life more often?
Thanks to inlaws visiting the kids and I didn't go to the brunch yesterday. It would have been good to touch base with the community. I guess it can wait until another time.
I've dried some lemon verbena and lemon balm for future use. Peppermint is next on the list for snipping and drying. It can wait until I get back.
I can't even think straight at this point.

All Hail The Great God "Blender"!

I finally got one of the offspring to try a smoothie. Why is this so hard?? they are very very suspicious of me when I try and get them to try something I made. I think this stems from times I snuck veggies into a favorite food with less success. Ben still says NO and runs the other way when I say "try this" but Cameron is more trusting...and eats like a horse so is less choosy.
But given that this is a house of popsicle maniacas that are sending us to the poorhouse with the expense, I will prevail. I bought 5 popsicle mold doohickeys.
Ingredients for the "popsicles" were juice and that frozen fruit you find in the freezer section of the grocery store. I made two varieties. one used canned frozen fruit punch and water with the fruit. The other has "exotic" fruit juice blend and the frozen fruit. The kids each had a fruit punch popsicle this morning after breakfast and declared them awesome.
This morning I offered up a smoothie and Cameron said yes. It was the popsicle recipe for the exotic juice and fruit. Soooo good. Now...to add some protein etc to the mix...mwahahahahahaha. ahem. Next time I will add some yogurt and honey. Tofu?

My Bathroom is sooooooo Clean

Its amazing what caffeine can make me accomplish. Today its fairly humid for me..I was soaked when finished the bathroom because I sweated so much. I am very humidity unfriendly.
My upstairs bathroom does get cleaned but its time (beyond time) for a deep down scrub fest. Today was that day. Walls were washed, windows scrubbed, floors super scrubbed...corners gotten into with a toothbrush.. the bathroom now gleams. I wish it would stay that way. I also wish for a pony and a plastic rocket...LOL Serenity related..funny to me.
Actually I would like a new window treatment for the bathroom. I hate whats there..it came with the house and we aren't all that decorish so it stayed but I truly hate it. I think its time for what I want in there.
Anyhoo, looks like my trip back east is scheduled for me leaving on the 5th (Saturday). Its gonna be hectic. Doesn't that defeat the purpose? I'll start in Pictou county and finish on the south shore. Wonder if I can make it in one trip on my own?hmmm.
The kids are awesome today. They had Mathieu over to play and have been over shortly and now that lunch is over will go back. I'm gonna figure out a supper and maybe do some more house work but I'm running outta steam.
phew...

We're Baaaaaaack

Home again after 10ish days of vacation. Verdict? More communication is required about what we want to do and when. Richard feels that its was all my schedule and he had to try and fit his things in.
Other than that it was great. The weather was very cooperative. Heat and sun and sand and beachcombing and fly bites and camp fires and sun burns and family and friends. All good.
Now we are home and my period is making me cranky from the bloating, water retention and pain. BUT I feel very rested since coming home to my own bed. I love my bed.
Came home to gardens that had exploded with progress, weeds that also seemed to multiply by the jillions and a mouse situation in the kitchen. NOT HAPPY. 3 cats in residence and we have a mouse or mouses. Caught one last night. I hope its the only one but what are the chances? On the good side, I scrubbed and bleached frantically so now you could eat off the floors beneath the stove and fridge. Also they were nowhere near as scary as I had feared. All the drawers of utensils were emptied, scrubbed with bleach, utensils sanitised in dishwasher with bleach and detergent, towels etc washed. Today I stripped all beds and have the washer going . I have also disposed of some clothes I am not wearing and will drop them off at a charity bin. Now things fit in the drawers again.
As I remember vacationy things I will record them here. I should have journalled at the time but I suck at that. Some moments were blissful...like when my older sister and I frolicked in the waters between sand bars near Point 44 like a couple of porpoises...wejust couldn't get enough! We found an insane number of sand dollars! Caught hermit crabs for the boys to look at too. Just plain fun!
Spent the first Saturday at Risser's for the entire day and Julie got a major sun burn but the kids did great. The water was chilly but Cameron never stopped the whole day..it was amazing! Ben too.. They made friend with other camping kids on the beach and all had a great time. I'd love to spend a week there someday. Except I hate out houses and the showers are far far away.
Oh well... I'm sad to have left but glad to be in my space.

Shiny..thanks Tigerlily

Tigerlily of Whiskerwhispers posted about a neclace pendant she ordered from www.magicalomaha.com
Look at this!! >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

My husband maybe be having a divorce lawyer call you for cause TLily :oD

Ponderin's..Ignorance is Bliss

Scarlet had an episode this week that has me secretly dreading my trip home.
I love my family...more than I ever have in my life I think. Considering how my teen years were spent waiting for my escape (adulthood). But I digress. Like any family with multiple siblings there is a fair amount of joshing and teasing. I try not to ever be MEAN with mine..good natured ribbing brings us all closer. BUT .....
I have some relatives that are not so sweet. I have had a weight problem my entire life. Would it have become such a problem WITHOUT the teasing? I can't say. I do know that being called Porky when I was 13 was NOT a self esteem builder. The only time I have gotten compliments from this person is when I was thin. Weight and food issues remained his weapons of choice throughout my teens and early adulthood. He is not the only one. My dad has made comments before (being helpful..as if I don't KNOW I have weight problems) and I recall that when I was a size 9 my mom commented to my aunt that I had no ankles. I had NO IDEA I had thick ankles..who thinks of this shit?? So...here I am...... on the raggedy edge ......having nighmares about being a fat cow with cankles (calves and ankles that merge with no real definition). If it weren't for the dreams I probably wouldn't even be commenting on this here.
I had a good run of weight loss in the Fall and early winter. Size 16 was comfy and even getting a bit loose in some brands of clothes. Then later in the winter and spring I got very low...SAD and depression ganged up on me, the diet went out the window and I began the ol' self medicating with food. Its like when an alcoholic falls off the wagon or when an ex-smoker starts up again.....the addiction demon just gets stronger every time. In my case with visible results. My clothes have gotten tight again. I'm having to consider moving up a size...the bathing suit that I finally found to suit me, albeit loosely, is a 20 (18 would have been perfect but apparently all my size sisters have been suit shopping this year and there are few if any 18s to be found).
I have good friends and family that love me and consider me pretty. One good friend who has had issues similar to mine with weight and self esteem and IS very pretty calls me beautiful. I look and I see a big belly wobbly arms and legs and a recipe for early death.
And I dread the comments on my downfall. They don't have to be at me...I know that they will exist amongst a select few. That is all it takes. Knowing. No bliss to be had.

What a world......

If you turn off the news and don't stay tuned in, this world is a magical mystical place. And I am so glad that I have an interest in it!!!
Yesterdays herb walk with the fantastic Melina was in a word "awesome". Thats not even a good enough word. i wish we could have stayed aaaaaaallllll day and not just the two hours we did. The park was a beautiful...truly beautiful. Also a bounty of healing to those who understand it and respect it. If you spirit is sore and in need of soothing, stroll the paths and find a secluded spot by a stream and just sit...breathe....watch the play of sun and shadow amongst the flora. Nibble a bit of violet leaf, birch stem, or a thimble berry (if they are ripe). Center and ground and pour your excesses into the Earth with gratitude that she always accepts you. Open your ears to the whisper of the breeze in leaves and the music of the birds. Fill your vision with green (opens the heart chakra). And breathe. In this hectic stressy life we don't breathe deeply enough. Fight or flight is always activated in our shallow stressed breathing and we exude cortisol! Breathe deep into the belly and let out the tension on the exhale. Stop the cortisol production for a few. Lean agaist that tree or that rock and just be.
I am in love with Mount Royal.

Herbs good and bad abound and Melina was a fabulous and natural guide. Her enthusiasm matched ours. We became friends with nettle, plantain, violet, valerian, mugwort, dwarf enchanters nightshade, and became wary of RED elderberry.(also learned how to tell the diff in flowers and berry from BLACK elderberry, queen of healing plants)
I hope Flora Medicina gets their english program going soon. I can't move back home until I attend. Hear me? You have 5 years, minimum!
Richard insulted Mullein last evening and called her an ugly plant. How mean is that??? I think she's beautiful and thats why I left her in the rear of the front garden rather than weeding her all out. Her fuzzy velvet grey green leaves and modest yellow flowers are pretty to me.
Nasty man.

FRIDAY!

No more day camp. I hated getting up so early even though it meant my house was empty for the day. I'd rather sleep in and yell at kids. :oD
Today i get my hair cut. I looooooooove going to a salon because I feel pampered and they wash my hair for me. Feels..soooo..goood.....(drooling snorfling sounds like Homer on a donut).
Tomorrow is the HERB WALK! I am thrilled and excited. Its supposed to be hot (not happy n'excited) and fine. So looking forward to this. What is an herb walk? An herb walk, in this instance, is going on a tour of an area with an herbalist and learning to recognise medicinal and magical herbs for future use. I need help with chickweed and nettles. Not sure on their identity. Those not into herbal things mock me for my vague obsession when I'm on hikes (husband) or out at public rit (SAM) but I enjoy recognising these plants. Once upon a time everyone (practically) knew these names and whether they were friend or foe. I wanna know! And I have NO idea why. Its always been this way . Will I make teas and tinctures etc etc? Maybe not but at least I'll know I can. It would probably be a waste of my time since NOONE in this family ever listens to me when it comes to their health. Make someone a soothing tea to ease a cold and bring comfort? It sits and gets cold and the person whines about how crappy they feel. "So feel crappy and shut the fuck up then!!!" See if I help you again you silly sob.
Ooh angst and bitterness..
And then will commence the prep frenzy for vacation. VACATION BABY! WHOOOHOOHOO. Herbs to meet (MUST GET SOME SWEET FERN) and beached to comb. yeeeeaaaaaaahhhh. Ooh and drinks to have with friends. And seeing family and getting huuuuugs.
I cannot wait for Thursday. Want to leave NOW.
Yeah...life's good.

Survey SAYS...?

Remember the old FamilyFeud with that smarmy guy that kissed all the women? He was creepy. But I digress.
I copied this from a website because some of the answers and the hosts reactions were so funny. Guilty giggle at stupid people funny. Enjoy!
THE 27 WORST FAMILY FEUD ANSWERS EVER:

Potpourri Update......

More additions...cardamom pods, star anise, and cinnamon stick pieces add a nice texture and a wee bit of depth to the scent. Some marjoram from the grocery store helps too. Its a strangely highly recommended herb for potpourri. Now if I could find some gosh darned essential oil for it I'd be happy..a Rose oil blend or some such. grr.

Hangin' In.......

Feeling a bit better and been a tad productive. Hair appointments made, cat food bought, basement vacuumed and furniture Lysol-ed to get rid of that lived in smell (I'm outta Febreeze). I know its a chemically thing and I'm all anti-chemicals but I hate smelly furniture...if I can smell it then its smelly to others. Thats just gross. Its not like I can throw the sofa in the washer and yes I could sprinkle it with baking soda and vacuum it but thats just a whole 'nother mess so out came the Lysol. It works well. When Febreeze wouldn't remove the smell of pee from Cameron's matress, Lysol did. Hey, ya can't run out and buy a new matress because someone had an accident in the middle of the night. I usually have a pad in place under his sheet but I had forgotten to replace it when I changed his sheets.
Anyhoo, I crossed some stuff off my list and thats good. I have a load in the dryer and a sleeping bag in the washer. The boys' sleeping bags are done. The trailer is washed down and Lysol-ed to lose that musty tent smell from the mattresses and cushions and I stuck my Serenity stickers on the inside of the door. NOW what I REALLY need is a bumper sticker for it. heh heh heh
I got a cool t shirt at Tigre Geant..color wise its ho hum (burgundy with navy blue trim) and it says: "Hard work pays off in the long run....But LAZINESS pays off NOW!" Richard said it was the one that expressed me the best. huh. nice.
It'll go great with my new cargo shorts and my jeans.
Is it wrong that my fashion sense is somewhere between 8 yr old and man? LOVE cargo shorts..LOVE comfy shirts, LOVE sandals... I wish I was a man so I could go shirtless. and pee standing up. But then when I broke out the heels and pretties I'd get looked at funny. dang.

Feeling Odd

Is it guilt because I am having a torrid love affair with ice cream and its beginning to show most unbecomingly on my face and belly fatness? Is it the humidity? Is it my grass allergy and the antihistamines?
My brain is fairly foggy and I can't seem to get enough sleep or anything houseworky done. This morning, making lunches for the boys to take with them to day camp was a huge undertaking..serious brain fog. Multi tasking, which I tend to take for granted, has flown out the window. This seriously sucks. Richard and I had a list of chores for yesterday. Well, we shopped. Then I needed a nap. ????????? Whats up with that? I was even getting stuff! When do I ever STOP shopping and beg to go home when I am the recipient of pretties???
I have to leave here at 3 pm to go pick up Cameron and then Ben..I have the whole day. It still feels like I have NO TIME to be alone. I want to nap, read, nap...why am I so burnt out suddenly?
I think it might be the camping gear clutter getting to me. Much has been moved into the trailer but the dining room table is still unusable for all 4 of us to sit down. That and we never finished the wall papering. it looks great as is so we haven't rushed to do more.
To do: get cat food
make hair appointment for me
make appointment for Blossom
make sure Ben's soccer uniform is clean
Get more dirt
fill garden bed #2
Dig up flowers to give to Nathalie and make troom for Grape vine and Raspberries.

UGH..................................

Getting ready to ROLL

The tent trailer is in our driveway, set up and awaiting my cleaning and stocking. Its so cool! Even has electric bed warmer thingies. I may move in permanent.
My many lists have been reduced to one and so I KNOW I am making progress in preparations. I have to make a new list though of what to DO before we leave not what to acquire. Things like wash the sleeping bags, pack, clear ourt fridge and kitchen sink etc, shut down the pool, give key to Isabelle to tend the girls, blah blah blah. I am having a blast planning and shopping. Weird eh? I cannot wait to leave. We will have soooo much fun.
First night..the Gardens near Edmundston..second and third nights, Risser's Beach!! WooHoo. We always wanted to camp out there by the beach. Then the 16th we move into the cottage intil the morning of the 23rd. After that is up in the air. Either Richard will fly home and leave us in NS to vacation a bit more or we will all come home. It depends on my tent trailer capabilities.
Marla and I have so many things we want to do together...Go to Carter's Beach to see if there is any sweet grass, learn ourselves how to make baskets together, laze around with drinks together.. She has kindly offered her back field as our home base and that is super because A) no daily fee, and B) I am at her place. hahahahahaha. Seriously, she has an awesome place and she is minutes from a great bakery and the beach.
We have a great friendship where we can let each other know that we are getting on each other's nerves and even get super pissed at one another but then we talk it out and make up. We should get married.

I am way excited about this trip. Richard is hankering to get on the road as much as me..he was actully prancy when he booked the Risser's camp site. Very excited.
Soooo coool.

May I Just say "JACKASSES!"

So after I get home from the Lithat ritual in Angrinon Parc today I here that the fireworks that I heard in my town last night caused this:
Fireworks fire burns homes near Montreal
Jun. 24, 2006. 11:49 AM
TERREBONNE, Que. (CP) — Three homes have been destroyed and several others damaged after fireworks to celebrate Quebec's St Jean Baptiste holiday went astray and landed on one of the house's roofs.
Police say the fire caused about one million dollars in damages and forced 50 people to leave their homes in Terrebonne, north of Montreal.
About forty firefighters were called to the scene.
Celebrations for the holiday continue across the province this weekend.
10:26ET 24-06-06

How embarrassing.............Yet could I find anything about this on the Gazette's website??? nooooooooo. I found it in the Toronto Star website. Cover up? Hmmmm......Keepin' it mum in the local press, eh?

Tidy!

I think that having fun last night gave me the energy to clean up my pantry cabinet this morning...what is up with that???!
Last night was the charity screening of Serenity in Montreal. We had over a hundred folk show up/buy tickets. We watched a shiny clip of Meryl Streep and Joss Whedon at an Equality Now function and then the big damn movie. There were folk that hadn't seen it at all! Afterward the prizes were drawn and we BOTH won a door prize! Holy crap! That was extra awesome. I also got a wee present as a volunteer. That was super shiny.
Richard looked great dressed in a Wash inspired outfit complete with a dino in his pocket. Khoba looked amazing as Zoe. I forget the name of the gal dressed as River but she looked cool too. Scarlet made an alluring Inara and I was very handy as Kaylee I do believe. No Cap'n, Simon, Shepherd Book, or Jayne to be seen. Poop.
Afterwards we trooped to the Intertainment Cafe at the corner of Bishop and Rene Levesque. Its a GREAT spot and they have kareoke booths, tonns of space and out of the ordinary beverages. I WILL return. Maybe we can get a kareoke night scheduled or make this spot our official browncoat hangout. That sounds great.
So..today is the first day of summer vay cay baby! I slept in until what FELT like 10 or 11 am...turned out it was 8:43 am. I had a coffee and then started listening to my shiny new Bedlam Bards cd (prize) and I must say the instrumentals leave me wanting MORE MORE MORE. Got all inspired to organise a cabinet that NEEDED it highly so I grabbed a shower, cranked the Bards and started in on it. After I was done it looked soooo good. Why can't it STAY that way??
I have been needing a big honkin' jar to start my potpourri in. Discovered I had one but had forgotten it. Technically its a 4 quart snp lid cookie jar but hey! Why not ! In went the rose petales, the dianthus flowers, dried orange peels, and last years dried cedar. Oh look I had juniper berries, calendula, and lavender too. In they went. The southernwood was FINALLY dry so in it went as well. Then the bay leaves I dried out a couple of weeks ago. I should really write this down I suppose! I'm pretty sure thats it so far. Now for some spice....must ponder this one. A bit of anise? Cinammon sticks? Cloves? Cardamom pods? Coriander? Something that says Summer's Garden. Hmmm...its a toughie. I know I will add some essential oils and orris root powder soon too. Its should be ready by Lammas (or Mabon if I'm real slow.). OH I forgot to dry some lemon verbena...doh! Ok...thats on the to do list.
I am having a great day so far and its just turned NOON. Whoa. I have been productive and if you know me you know thats wierd!!!!!!!!

Mommy Came Out....

......of the broom closet on Saturday to one of the kids.
Yes...finally. As Ben and I watched Cameron's soccer practice, we chatted about various and sundry things. I have been thinking about talking to Ben about my spiritual life for a little while now. He's nine and always interested in the things Mommy does (gardens, cooking, feeding squirrels and birds) and I thought I should explain to him about what I am and what that means. His first comment"But witches aren't real!" Once it was explained that green skinned scary old ladies on flying brooms weren't real but that yes there are people that work magic. Then came the talk about how cool it WOULD be to fly on the broom and I told him our joke (me and Edith) thats too old fashioned and slow..we want vacuum cleaners with cup holders. he giggled like crazy and came up with about a milloin flying things with cup holders "Is that funny mom, isn't that a good one?" Did he get the point? Kind of. Was he told to keep it under his hat and why? Yes. Does he want to learn more? Yes.
So...the first step has been taken and we move by baby steps into the world of Pagan Parenting rather tha parenting with some nature love in it. With Ben I have the opportunity to learn and teach and nurture his spirit more obviously.
I hope I don't blow it.

Did I tell ya? Cats Rule...

We have tickets to see Cats at Place Des Arts July 11th....woo hoo! Meowmeowmeow.....MUSICAL! We love musicals (although Evita didn't float my boat but Mamma Mia was awesome) and living near Montreal and actually having the occassional room on the Visa for tickets is wonderful. It makes up for a lot of my home sickness...sometimes. Its on my list of why living here isn't as bad as if feels some days. We are very lucky to have this opportunity to be near a city that attracts great shows and performances. In the year we have been here we have seen Mama Mia, Evita, and Bare Naked Ladies. Our second year of being entertained by more than TV and liquor commences with Cats! I saw Cats in Halifax as a production toured through and I loved the music..Do I really understand it? Umm..no...but I thoroughly enjoy the costumes and dancing and songs about all of these fabulous fictional T.S. Eliot created cats. The names are witty and nonsensical and yet totally right on the money as far as naming a cat goes. Fluffy? Pluh-lease..Mungo Jerry and Rum Tum Tugger are sooooo much better. Got a tabby? Jenny Anydots is a whimsical name that is perfection just in the speaking. Grizzabella is just as her name ipmlies..a glamorous beauty that is waaaay past her prime. Think Cher without plastic surgery as a cat.
It also helps that I have been a cat person for my whole life. Dogs are fine but on the whole cats are irresistable to be. The cuteness...the ferocity...the cuddle factor...the killer beneath the facade...the claws..the fangs...the sleepy time in the sun..the grace and the slyness. Cats Rule.

Updates Updates Updates.......

Its Monday..let the updates begin!
Friday we were told that YES we get the tent trailer. Richard goes to the bank to give them papers and sign stuff today,Then gets the trailer hitch installed and fetches the tent trailer on Wednesday. Woohoo. Camping here we come..next week. Mucho busyness this weekend. Saturday is the CMS Litha Ritual and Sunday is Pagan Brunch (can you say YUM?) for me and the kids whilst R goes to something Formula One.
The boys are finished school this Thursday..holy summer madness Batman! Its is about to be commencin'!
I super cleaned and maintained the pool this weekend before Richard got back (laaaaaaate Saturday night). It was ooky. What is UP with the algae this year? Last year we never saw a bit until August..this year it just will NOT stay away. Until now...I have taken things in hand and the pool looks fab. Clear and clean. I vacuumed (of course), tested (of course)..hmm lowish on chlorine..ok in goes a puck. Then I shocked with the oxygenating stuff. Next day(saturday)...hmmm...still not quite right... I purchased these nifty things called skimmer socks to line the skimmer basket and spare the filter some wear and tear. And got algaecide. No more guesswork either...I finally figured out the water volume and made sure enough stuff was added. And scrubbing took place again... It was a thing of beauty I tell ya! When Richard got home that pool was ready for serious hat weather action. Which arrived right on cue.
Holy sweatyness...ugh...It is hot hot hot and humid. We lounged poolside most of the day. Richard took Ben to soccer practice and later in the day the boys all went mini golfing and I napped in blissful peace. Blissful sweaty peace.
Richard and the guys arrived home to cool off in the pool and Richard then installed the AC unit in our bedroom window. We had pizza for supper and skinny dipped before beddies. Great day .
I think that covers everything...ooh..I was able to thin radishes and it yielded a couple of tiny ruby red globes for muchin's. Now I'm done..except for I bought a new two piece bathing suit. I think the sizing for Roots gear runs small...size 16 my ass! Its a red and white tropical looking floral tankini.
Fin.

New Link

I have a new link...check out the Shakespearean Insult Generator and you can learn to tell folk off with style and panache! hee hee. What fun.
No news on the tent trailer financing...not looking too good as the caisse says its a 50/50 chance. We do have a lot of debt.
Anyhoo, Richard is in Whistler and Ben has a soccer game tonight. Watched "The Corpe Bride" last night..underwhelmed.
Tonight its Pride and Pedjudice.

When the going is tough.....

or even just quiet..slow...uuumm...I'm breathing...I go to Cute Overload for massive doses of cuteness. My heart gets all melty...I smile...I feeel ssoooooo good after a trip to Cute Overload...sigh. You must try it..Addicting but so good for you. http://cuteoverload.com/
I have two new artists (to me they are new) that I want their CDs.. Matt Dusk and Natasha Beddingfield. I so want their cds. Matt Dusk does jazz and swing (think of Michael Buble but really really ridiculously good looking) and Natasha is on the radio now with "Unwritten". I am enjoying "All About Me" by Matt Dusk whenever I encounter it.
So...we found an awesome tent trailer and jumped off that cliff of "we want it lets buy it". We await word that we got the financing. By shopping around we saved about 2000 dollars compared to the local place and got more for our money thank you very much. (trailer hitch intallation and 4 bike rack) Its the same type trailer (Flagstaff) but one year older, has a bike rack on the roof, and the dealership included the trailer hitch we need to have installed on the Volvo. We are so stoked...want to go camping as soon as possible. And if we have this I am staying in NS with the boys for some extra time and maybe can go back more often (in camping season). This is exciting. I hope we get approved.
finger crossed, toes crossed, legs crossed...eyes crossed.......

Another day....

blahh blahh blah.. Its Tuesday and I have another soccer game to attend tonight. Ben's this time and Cammie again tomorrow.
We went out looking at tent trailers last night after Cammie's game. They are pricey little motherf$%^s ! There is one for sale a couple of streets away and its for $12,000. Thats right...TWELVE thousand for a used tent trailer. Oy! Then again I don't know what year it is or what upgrades have been done. its a fairly recent one.
I have tried being the Devil's Advocate rather than the Devil herself and suggested that maybe this isn't such a wise move. We do need to reduce our debt further so that we have less month left at the end of the money. BUT it will allow us (by us I mean me and the kids) to spend more time in NS camping comfortably rather than much less comfortably. Richard doesn't get much time off so he'd not be going as much. BUT i'd have to learn how to put it up and down myself. And how to back it up...I suck at that with trailers though I was getting the hang of it with my utility trailer a few years ago. I think he wants to shop around some more before we decide for sure this year, yes or no.
Ben's teeth are doing great although Suzanne says she thinks he will need braces when he's older. Damn! there goes retirement.
My roses look sooo pretty! I think I will try to make lavender bottles tomorrow!

12 Loooooooooonnnnggg Years

That is how long Ricahrd and I have been married now. Twelve. Long. Years. :oP
Poor guy...come on let's hear it for my pooor long suffering husband who puts up with my various weirdnesses. aaaaaaw..Poor Richard. Thats what my family always says anyway. June 11th, 1994 is a day taht will go down in infamy!
To celebrate said event we went to a garden sale and bought some plants. Then I planted the plants: one Baptisia(false indigo), one lily magnolia, and 2 lilacs. they are all pretty small (except the baptisia) but with any luck they will grow and flourish. My roses have commenced to blooming after teasing me with the tips of opening buds for a week or more. Morden Ruby, while not fragrant, is very floriforous (sp?) and the blossoms are interesting because the petals are not a solid color but somewhat blotchy. Very pretty vibrant pink/red. I highly recommend it for hardiness and showiness.
Tonight was Cameron's third soccer game. He overheard one of the other kids say he didn't play well and his feelings are hurt. Mama Bear wants to crush the other kids skull and smear it on the ground. Reasonable Mother wants to help him learn to play better and utilise this as constructive criticism. What did I say to Cameron? "If he says it again tell him "Bite my ass, Dickwad!" Well I thought the dickwad part since that seemed a bit much. Poor Cammie. He was really enjoying it until that happened...having fun and thinking he was doing well and liking being part of a team for the first time. Poor baby.
Today was my last shift at the MPRC for most of the summer. The boys finish school next week. I got two new books today. Healing Wise by Susun weed and Jude's Herbal Home Remedies by Jude Todd. Very exciting. Also got some orris root powder so I can make potpourri this year. Yaaaay! The lavender is blooming now as it dianthus.
Gotta go.

Chilly

and not just the weather. R checked the bank account this morning and after an exclamation (softly) or two became ominously silent. When I would speak to him I got monosyllabic answers and little to no eye contact. It would appear that I am in the doghouse yet again! Its getting so's I should decorate in here since I have spent much of the last 12 years out here. Suddenly I feel very very tired. And bored. and Tired. Thumbsucking may be called for. Or not.
Many heaved sighs later........
Is it just me or does non-fiction do this to everyone? I zone out...I'm reading..its interesting..I bought the damned books...why do I zone out? Suddeenly I am paragraphs or pages along but no idea what I just read because my brain switched over to another track. Grrrrr. This always happened with text books. That is understandable!! But why when its a book I WANT to absorb????
Yesterday I washed some clothes, vacuumed, washed the kitchen floor (eeeeewwwww gross), and di some dusting. Today its laundry again and bathrooms etc. Ben has another game tonight! Had no idea until his coach called...yup there it is on the schedule I have not read thoroughly.
I so suck as a parent.

Is it just me?

Does anyone else find the DQ commercial featuring creepy monsters funny? Its like monsters meet junior high crush. Very funny. To me anyways. ahem..anyways...
My nose is running like crazy(plus sneezing watery itchy eyes etc etc etc). YES allergy season is upon me and I AM NOT HAPPY. Y'know if global warming etc causes wild life decimation why can it not get rid of some grass???? #$%^&^%^%&* pollen. I hate you grass pollen!!!! grumble grumble
Ben's soccer team so got their asses kicked again last night. Only half the team showed up for the game in St-Roch-de-l'Achigan and its probably because it was hard to find. Not on my list of parcs that Cameron's team plays on. Here is another way that Cam's coach is sooooo much better than Ben's. He gave us MAPS of the parc locations. Thank You! Very handy for someone like ME who has no idea where these #$%^&* places are! Richard went online to the soccer website and found the map for St Roch. I still got lost and had to buy a provincial map (again..mine is in the Volvo and I had the Echo) to find my way there. Anyways, the other team really had it together and showed up. They even warmed up better..grrrr. Asses kicked very fast 7-1 BUT Ben's playing was much better than last game even though he had no idea how to play his position. We basically yelled instructions at him from the sidelines. I became the kind of mother I hate at games. Then I got excited when Ben made a good kick and squealed/screamed. I must hang my head in shame now. So humiliated. Ben was thrilled with his playing and happy even though they lost and THAT my friends is what sports should be about. Tonight Cameron plays. I will keep my mouth shut...REALLY.

Tuesday Tuesday should be a snooze day..........

but it isn't. I have to get to Jean Coutu and get a photo done (AGAIN) for my health card. I just did this last summer for pete's sake. What a pain in the ass.
Also have lots and lots and lots of laundry to haul downstairs. Ben has a game tonight at 7 pm and Richard is pretty sure he will not make it home from Quebec City in time. My allergies are starting up .
I wanna nap!
I got books yesterday: Way of The Green Witch by Arin Murphy-Hiscock and Mysteries of Druidry by Brendan Cathbad Myers. Also got the latest Eating Well but not knocked out by this issue as I have been by past issues. Made me want to bake a tart though. Yum.
ok...this is getting nothing done at all.
sooo slllleeeeeeeepy.
MORE COFFEE.

Oh and

SageWoman passed on the article because Wyntergreene is publishing it(SageWoman only takes articles that have never been soiled by other publications inky litttle mitts). They suggested I send it to their sister publication Blessed Bee and to try them again (SW)when I have something new. Oh well...nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Sales at Sears.......

are a dangerous thing for us it would seem. Richard has been in desperate need of fresher duds for work for quite some time. Its a sad but true fact of life in Montreal that in the insurance industry you are somewhat judged on appearance and need to stay au courant and stylin'. To this we are not adjusting well. Poor man.... after Christmas when I gave him a couple of cool shirts and a sweater he got compliments. This points out the fact that his look had been getting stale. But ye Gods NEW clothes are EXPENSIVE! If they want him looking sharper than we can afford maybe they should give a clothing allowance (don't even get me started on the fact that our Volvo purchase was after a "suggestion" from the boss). So, poor R has been getting dowdy , especially in the golf attire.
Today was the day to hit Sears. The sales were great!!!! We got 25 and 40% off many items and literally loaded our arms with shirts, ties, pants and shirts for golf (outdoor office) and pants and blazers for the(indoor) office. Since this only a once in awhile thing he needed quite a few things replaced. the shocker is when we got to the check out. The total was almost as much as my wedding gown. Thank Gods for plastic or the man would be naked. Thank Gods for my sister's care packages of hand me downs and thrift finds or I would be too.
Meanwhile, I got shirts and shorts for the kids the other day at the comptoir as well as shorts for Richard. $13. Went back yesterday for the bonsai pot I saw Thursday. Now to find the right plant for it.
One garden box (4x8)is finally filled and planted. 38 bags of soil it took! Those will be expensive tomatoes and carrots this year. Now I know how many bags I need for the other one.
I have been disgusting for May. No trips to Curves and eating like crazy... The inches taken off are back. Depressing. I gotta try to do better. I have been very tired and going to the gym after lunch has just seemed like too much effort. Must..Do..Better!!!!
I wish I had ice cream.

Thursday

So, after a scolding from Edith I sent my article to Sage Woman. I did it. Really. Now the wait begins. If they email me back will I remember that I sent them an article? I'm assuming it will take many moons for a reply. I took the leap and there we have it.
Now I need to do more laundry. And more article ideas. Hmmmm..."My Favorite Nap" 'What Kelly Said on Tv Today" "Vodka..Its not just for breakfast anymore" "Why Yawns Are Contagious and Other Universal Mysteries"......
Just a bit of brainstorming....heehheeeeeee
oop washer dinged.........
